School Guidance
Careers Education is an important part of the school curriculum. Students at Varee Chiangmai International School receive careers education and advice, in order to prepare them for the key transition points in Year 9 and Year 11, and as an important part towards the preparation for their future beyond school. The main aim of Careers Education at the school, is to ensure that all students are effective planners and managers of their own careers in a rapidly changing world of learning and work.
Students have access to impartial careers information, advice and guidance from Year 7, supported by a planned programme of careers education and events across the curriculum. Careers Education is an integral part of the PSHE programme for years 7 – 13. Subject teachers are also encouraged to talk with pupils about their career aspirations and can refer pupils to the Career and Guidance Counsellor for further information. Support for student subject option choices, takes place in Years 9 and 11 . Students have subject option presentations, there is a parent information event and students are each able to speak with an experienced member of staff to discuss their choices.
In Years 11 to 13 there are presentations by various post school education providers and many international universities visit the school. The students are also taken to a large Career and University Fair annually, where they have the opportunity to attend seminars and speak with representatives from universities around the world. Students are also seen in groups and individually by the Guidance Counsellor, to discuss their career choices and the routes open to them.
During their time at Varee Chiangmai International School, all students can participate in a dual work experience/community service programme within the school. Students are given the chance to work in the English Language Programme supporting teachers and working with younger students. Each student taking up this opportunity is issued with a community service log, which can be used for university applications and when applying for work. Older students are also able to visit local and global companies to experience work in various settings.
The Career and Guidance Counsellor is available for any parent, guardian or student requesting careers information or advice.
